Jarga Designs is a Norwegian clothing line that combines the best of African couture and Scandinavian fashion. Founded by Jankeh Njie Jamanca in 2013, Jarga Designs quickly reached huge markets in Norway.
After selling out two collections in the early stages of building the brand, Njie-Jamanca and her team did a comprehensive customer survey comparing African and Scandinavian fashion. The results clearly showed that African attire is an occasional outfit for many people. The predominant reason being that the traditional fabrics used are often not washable, stiff and uncomfortable to wear over a long period of time.
Njie-Jamanca realized very quickly that this was a huge challenge for her brand. The JD team strived hard to make JD a multicultural-inspired ready-to-wear clothing line, but with the fabric’s disadvantages, it became difficult.
After researching for months with her team and traveling the world, Jarga Designs was the first Norwegian brand in 2016 to produce their own African print on fabrics such as silk, velvet, polyester, jersey and much more.
With customers including everything from dancers to lawyers, material of high quality and comfort to the touch was highly needed.
Last month, Njie launched a new and exciting project which has never been done before in either Norway or Scandinavia. An African-inspired sock collection.
The Jarga Designs socks were inspired by the founder’s husband and his sense of style. The socks are colorful, elegant and work for the urban and classic man. The patterns are of course designed by Jarga Designs and produced in Europe. They are available for purchase on www.jargadesigns.com
