Although the official exhibit title is “VOLEZ VOGUEZ VOYAGEZ LOUIS
VUITTON,” unofficially, I might call it: Learn it. Love it. Live it.
LOUIS VUITTON!
For those new to the LV game, this is an opportunity to learn a bit
more about the brand, such as the namesake founder’s humble beginnings
… in 1835, at the age of fourteen, he traveled to Paris on foot from
his native village (Anchay) in the Jura Mountains of eastern France.
For those die-hard Louis Vuitton fans, this is an opportunity to love
every piece as you travel through the curated collection on display
… from the well-traveled, early 1900s vintage steam trunks and
limited edition collaborative works from the likes of Takashi Murakami
to runway looks and red carpet creations from Marc Jacobs’ and Nicolas
Ghesquière’s tutelage as Creative Directors of the Parisian house.
(Spoiler alert: At the final turn of the NYC exhibit you’ll find an
homage to America … a red carpet, flash photography allowed,
dedicated room paneled in the monogram graffiti made famous by the
S/S2001 Stephen Sprouse. Don’t miss your step-and-repeat opportunity!)
For all those captivated by the beauty of these functional and mobile
art pieces, this exhibit is a challenge to live the luxury lifestyle
of travel for which the bags were originally purposed.
I’m partial to the Steamer Bag. It fits a Manhattan trip to the gym
just as well as a red eye getaway. But whatever your destination and
preferred mode of transportation, #NYCVVV wants you to know there’s an
LV bag for it.
The exhibition runs through January 7, 2018 at 86 Trinity Place in New York, NY.
