Summertime Hair Maintenance for Moisturizing Your Hair to the Max

Nothing kills a healthy set of tresses faster than the dry, sweltering summer heat.  As you know, the human body is mostly comprised of water.  When a plant is dying, it is usually because it’s drying out.  When you water it, it’ll come back to life again.  It’s the same concept with our natural locks.  Hair must have water to sustain itself and be healthy. This is most important in the summertime.

So what does it take to keep your hair moisturized as the temperature rises?

#1 – Start Within
Hydration and moisture begins within.  If you are dehydrated, you can be sure that your hair is too.  Drink copious amounts of water in the summer.  Not only is this good for your hair and encourages growth, but your skin will look fabulous too!  If you don’t want to try just ordinary H2O, have a glass or two of coconut water.  It is naturally packed with rich vitamins and super hydrating nutrients that puts plain ole’ water to shame.

#2 – Mist on the Go
This is not the tip for those of you trying to combat shrinkage or frizz.  But this is great for protective styles such as braids or twists.  Just as you may carry a bottle of water (purified) to hydrate you in the summer heat, take a spray bottle of water.  You can also amp it up by using rosewater.  I use all-natural rosewater with vegetable glycerin to spritz not only my hair, but my face as well.  This is one of those “kill two birds with one stone” sort of deals.  Rosewater coupled with the glycerin make a dynamic moisturizing duo!  And is very light as well.

#3 – Super Moisturizing Conditioning
After washing your hair in the shower:

●    Gently squeeze excess water from hair
●    Massage a mixture of Avocado, Coconut, and Olive Oil into hair and scalp
●    Condition hair as you would normally

Voilá…Magically soft and moisturized hair!

***Make sure you follow up with a good leave-in conditioner.

#4 – Swimming = Clarifying Shampoo Session
Pools, whether saltwater or chlorine, can produce some pretty damaging effects on the hair.  Every time you take a dip, make sure you wash your hair that very day with a clarifying shampoo to remove all of the harmful chemicals from your hair.

#5 – Day & Night Habits
Spritzing your hair with water or some other liquid moisturizer (I use Aloe Vera Juice, purified water, Avocado Oil, and Argan Oil) and sealing it with butters such as Shea or heavy oils like Jojoba, Almond, or even Castor everyday will keep you summertime hair on point!
