“…ashes of a phoenix, not the flames…”
Jerome LaMaar considers himself a “cultivator of culture.” If anyone had a question of which ‘culture,’ this event was the perfect clarification.
The chance to attend LaMaar’s REBIRTH at Tumblr HQ felt one part observation and one part presentation.
Before the models took the stage, it was awe-inspiring to see the wall-to-wall gathering of fabulously-clad, #melanin culture shapers, shifters and commentators. From those dressed in head-to-toe streetwear to those mixing internationally-acclaimed luxury brands to their liking (and everyone in between), all the attendees’ looks seemed authentic, easily-composed and at-ease with one another in this space. Selfies and discourse co-existed.
The presentation stayed true to that vibe, a picture of LaMaar’s cultural commentary as well as an invitation to closely examine it. A mix of crystal accessories, graffiti painting and gilded touches on Nike footwear all came together in an artful display that elevated #allblackeverything looks to what LaMaar has coined “South Bronx Luxe”! And the designer’s handiwork didn’t stop there. He also previewed a new fragrance for those Jreamers joining on his journey of rebirth.
Now that’s what you call ‘doin’ it for the culture’!
We can’t wait to see what else is about to ignite for Jreamer mastermind LaMaar!
